Number One Purpose is to Protect the Public

The number one purpose of regulating a health profession, in the case of this college: Audiology, Hearing Instrument Dispensing and Speech-Language Pathology, is to protect the public by:

         1)      Ensuring standards are established and met by the health professional (Audiologist, Hearing Instrument Practitioner, Speech-Language Pathologist) in order to mitigate any potential risk of harm to the public;

         2)      Ensuring anyone who uses a professional health title (as noted above) has met the standards of that practice and continues to keep current through a quality assurance program;

         3)      Providing a transparent, fair and thorough process to deal with complaints from members of the public and the profession regarding the practice of a registrant. 

Principle One of the Code of Ethics reads:

A registrant must provide professional services and conduct research with integrity and reliability, and ensure that the dignity, individuality and rights of the client are safeguarded.

Principle Two of the Code of Ethics reads:

A registrant must make the welfare of a client the registrant’s primary concern.

Making A Complaint

If you believe a registrant of this college has not met the standards of practice or the Code of Ethics, you may make a complaint in writing to the registrar of this college via email: registrar@cshhpbc.org or by fax 604-568-1566 or mail: 410, 999 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1K5.  If you require assistance to make the complaint in writing, please feel free to telephone the registrar at 604-568-1568. 

If you are aware of an individual practicing as an Audiologist or Hearing Instrument Practitioner or Speech-Language Pathologist in British Columbia who is not registered with this college, please contact the registrar.
