1. IMPORTANT RENEWAL NOTICE
Your registration with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC will expire on March 31st, 2012.
If you fail to renew by: 1) March 31st, a penalty fee of 10% of the renewal fee will apply when you renew during the period April 1st to April 30th, 2012 – the “grace period”. 2) April 30th, you will be deemed to be a former registrant. Should you wish to register after April 30th, you may do so by applying for “reinstatement”, for which a $200 fee will apply in addition to the renewal fee. The reinstatement period is from May 1st to June 30th, 2012. 3) June 30th, you will be deemed to be a former registrant. Should you wish to register you will be required to complete a new application and pay the application, registration, and criminal records check fees.
You have the following options to renew your registration with the college: 1) Online. Access your secure record through the “Registrants Only” section of the college website. If you have forgotten or misplaced your password, please follow these instructions:
Your username is the primary email address you provided to the college. Please use this email address to reset your password. You can do this by entering your username into the login box, then click the forgotten password link to set a temporary password. Once logged in, print off your username and password (if you reset either) to ensure future ease of access.
If you are unsuccessful using the above process, please contact the Office Administrator by email at info@cshhpbc.org.
2) Fax or Post. Access and print the renewal form through the “Forms” tab on the college website. Payment may be made by credit card, cheque or money order.
For more information on fees, reporting Continuing Competency Credits, inactive registration, and general information please access the FAQ through the college website. You are required to report your CCCs by March 31st, 2013, therefore you have approximately 14 months to obtain a total of 45 credits, or 1.25 credits for each month you have been registered with the college.
2. ANNOUNCEMENT FROM FIRST NATIONS AND INUIT HEALTH CANADA TO ALL AUDIOLOGISTS AND HEARING INSTRUMENT PRACTITIONERS
The Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program provides a limited range of medically necessary health-related goods and services to eligible registered First Nations and recognized Inuit clients when they are not covered through private insurance plans or provincial/territorial health and social programs.
Effective January 1, 2012, audiologists will be added as recognized prescribers of audiology equipment and supplies under Health Canada's NIHB Program. Please note hearing aid specialists, such as hearing instrument practitioners, will continue to require a referral prescription from a physician, nurse practitioner, or audiologist to dispense hearing aid equipment and supplies.

3. NOTICE OF PROPOSED NEW PART 12 (SUPPORT PERSONNEL) TO BYLAWS
October 5, 2011
The Board of the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia (CSHHPBC) has approved a new Part 12 – Support Personnel to the Bylaws of the CSHHPBC during a board meeting held September 9, 2011, as attached to this notice which commences the notice period required by the Health Professions Act. Please submit any comments to the College and/or the Ministry of Health Services no later than January 7, 2012. A summary explanation precludes the attached proposed Part 12 for reference purposes.

4. BYLAW AMENDMENTS

5. REPORTING CONTINUING COMPETENCY CREDITS
CCCs must be reported no later than March 31, 2013. Registrants have two options to report their CCCs: online through the "Registrants Only" section of the website or by downloading the form located under the "Forms" tab, mailing or faxing to the college no later than March 31, 2013.

6. WHERE'S THE LINE - PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES
The Client Relations Committee recently approved the adoption of "Where's the Line" to assist registrants and the public understand relationship boundaries acceptable between a health professional and client.

8. WCB HEARING AID PROVIDER BULLETIN
The current Hearing Aid Provider Services contracts will expire on February 29, 2012. WorkSafeBC will not be extending the contracts and as a result will be initiating a competitive qualification process. A Request for Qualification (RFQ) document will be available no later than September 22, 2011. Respondents (Providers) will have four (4) weeks to complete and submit a response to the document. Please be reminded that registrants are required to update their personal and professional contact information with the college. Updating the college is the responsibility of every registrant, as set out in section 81(2) of the bylaws and agreed to in the statutory declaration. You must keep your information with us current. The college sometimes conveys important information and updates by email; please ensure that we have your correct email address. In so doing, please also ensure that this email address will accept messages from the cshhpbc.org domain. Also note it is the registrant's responsibility to keep abreast of college news as posted on our website.
