Parents and guardians of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who are under the age of six years, should check with the Registry of Autism Service Providers (RASP) which can be found on the Autism Information Services BC (AIS BC) website: autisminfo.gov.bc.ca The RASP list is updated weekly -- as new Behavior Consultants, Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists are added frequently -- and is managed by the Ministry of Children & Family Development.
To access Ministry funding to pay for services to children under six with ASD, parents MUST employ service providers who are on the RASP list. If a professional provides service before they have been accepted to the RASP list, parents will not be reimbursed by the Ministry. Parents are urged to check the RASP list before they assume that a professional is an approved service provider.
Speech-language pathology services for all persons with ASD
For the provision of all speech-language pathology (SLP) services to any person with ASD, the SLP must be registered with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC (CSHHPBC). To ensure the person is registered, please check the Register.
Some practitioners providing services may use titles that sound similar to "Speech-Language Pathologist" or "Speech Therapist", and may offer services that sound like speech-language pathology. If you are considering using the services of a health professional, and you are not sure if they are in fact a Registered Speech-Language Pathologist (RSLP), please refer to the College Register or contact the College office enquiries@cshhpbc.org
